Number Porting
Keeping your numbers is the part businesses worry about most. It's the part we do most often.
Why porting goes wrong
A port fails for boring reasons. The name on the account does not match the letter of authorization. The service address on file is an old suite number. A number is bundled into a service the business forgot it had. The losing carrier rejects the request and nobody follows up for a week.
None of these are technical problems. They are paperwork problems, and they are why businesses lose numbers or spend a month in limbo.
How we run a port
- We pull your current service records and check them against your account details before submitting anything
- We identify every number on the account, including fax and alarm lines that are easy to miss
- We build and test your new system while your numbers are still live on the old one
- We schedule the cutover for a specific date and time, usually outside business hours
- We stay on the port until the numbers are confirmed live and calls are flowing
We handle the carrier side ourselves rather than passing it to an upstream vendor. When a port hits a snag, the person chasing it is the person you can call.
What to expect on timing
Simple ports of a few numbers from a major carrier typically move quickly. Complex ports — multiple accounts, bundled services, or numbers tied to a contract — take longer, and anyone who promises you a date before seeing your records is guessing. We give you a realistic window after we review what you have.
What we'll need
- A recent bill from your current provider, all pages
- The exact business name on the account
- The service address as the carrier has it
- Account number and any PIN or passcode
- A full list of numbers to move
Before you cancel anything
Do not cancel your existing service before a port completes. Cancelling releases the numbers, and once released they can be very difficult to recover. We will tell you exactly when it is safe to close the old account.
Ask us what porting your numbers involves.
Send your number list and current carrier. We'll tell you the realistic timeline before you commit to anything.
